COLLEGE ESSAY
a one-week course in writing the stand-out essay
The college essay is a significant part of your application.
Thankfully, unlike SAT or AP test results,
it is also the portion which you can control.


Course Description

This course will walk students through the process of creating a creative and well-written college essay. Topics of instruction include: how admissions officers read essays; the seven bad essay topics; what makes a unique personal angle; how to use detail, sentence structure, and metaphor effectively; and more.

Students will spend class time discussing sample essays and practicing writing techniques. For homework students will read successful college admissions essays and work on drafts of their own essays.

 
 

Tuition

Tuition is $200, which covers
the costs of materials.

 

Classes will be held at
our Sunnyvale office.

The course will be offered the weeks of June 28 - July 2, July 26-30,
and August 23-27.

About your instructor

Nat Crawford, M.A. Stanford University, is director of tutoring at Improve Your English. He graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Chicago. He has helped students earn admission to Harvard, Wesleyan, Caltech, MIT, Harvey Mudd, UC Berkeley, UCLA, and Syracuse, among other schools.

Prior to joining Improve Your English, he taught writing at Stanford University and at Pinewood School. His students have praised him for creating challenging courses, paying strict attention to English grammar, helping them develop a personal voice, and delivering instruction with a touch of humor.
